Hubbard on Alabama’s SEC Championship Mindset
Conference championship week is here, and the Alabama Crimson Tide will compete in the Southeastern Conference Championship, aiming for their 31st title. Alabama has played in more SEC Championship games than any other team.
The Crimson Tide last played in the SEC Championship game in 2023, when they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs. Saturday's matchup will mark the fifth time these two teams have met in the SEC Championship, with the Crimson Tide having won the previous four encounters in 2012, 2018, 2021 and 2023.
Each season, the team's goal is to compete, dominate, play for the conference championship, and vie for a national championship. After missing the conference championship since 2023, the Crimson Tide is eager to reclaim its position as the best in the conference.
During Tuesday's player availability, Bray Hubbard spoke with media members to discuss the upcoming matchup and what it means for the Crimson Tide to compete for the conference title.
"It's one of our goals. Obviously, our main goal is a national championship, but being able to play for the conference championship is huge too. We're excited about that, and it's going to be a great game," Hubbard stated.
While this matchup comes as an exciting reward for Alabama's hard-fought season to reach Atlanta, Georgia, some view this game as a risk. If Alabama loses, there's uncertainty about their playoff status and whether the committee would exclude them after three loses.
Despite the perceived risk, Alabama isn't focused on potential consequences. They are concentrating on one game at a time and taking care of business on Saturday in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
"The way we view it is, we have to go and handle business and let our play talk. That's really what it is–let our play talk for getting in the College Football Playoff. Obviously, we got this SEC championship to look forward to, and if we do our thing there, we'll set up great for the playoffs. We're not really focused on the playoffs right now; we still got this game coming up, so that's our main focus," Hubbard stated.
Alabama and Georgia will kick off at 3 p.m. CT on ABC. This will be the second time the two will compete this season. Alabama won the regular-season matchup 24-21 in Athens, Georgia.
