Another edition of the Tuscaloosa Public Library's Repair Cafe will be held there tomorrow as volunteers try to fix broken household items free of charge.

The popular event was introduced in 2024 and returned quarterly last year, bringing tech-savvy volunteers to the Library to help fix appliances, typewriters, bicycles, clothing, furniture and more.

No repair can be guaranteed, but TPL said since they have have served 410 people and repaired around 100 items, which kept more than 400 pounds of would-be trash out of the landfill.

"We recruit volunteers from all over the community, including high school and university students, churches, service clubs, social media, and the local news," TPL said in a press release. :We partner with organizations like Alabama Public Radio and the People’s Loan Program to provide additional resources. We also have a “Take It Apart” table where kids can experiment by taking apart items like laptops and coffee makers.

The next iteration is tomorrow, Saturday January 17th, from noon to 3 p.m.

Whether you're a volunteer who could be able to help contribute or someone looking to have something fixed instead of throwing it away and spending more money on a replacement, check on the Repair Cafe at the library's Main Branch building on Jack Warner Parkway Saturday afternoon.
