A longtime staple of southern dining in Tuscaloosa is permanently closed, ownership announced on Monday.

T-Town Cafe, which has been open on 14th Street for more than a decade, is shutting down permanently, according to a post on Facebook Monday morning.

"It is with great disappointment that I must share with you that T-Town Cafe is permanently closed. It's been a privilege to serve our customers and be the kind of place so many of you enjoyed coming to for meals," the post read. "We tried everything we could to stay open, but the challenges have become too much to overcome. We'll be eternally grateful for all the connections we made along the way and we want all of you who offered words of support or posted a positive review to know that you were a great encouragement to us. Thank you!"

A second post said the space at 500 14th Street, the restaurant's home since 2012, is now for sale.

"T-town Cafe for sale. Someone that starts with a decent amount of money will be able to continue to grow this. I just ran out of working capital," the second post read. "So I would love to see someone continue to keep it alive. It’s been there since 2012 or if someone just needs to buy a shell for another concept. Thank you all for letting me be a part of this journey."

The closure follows a decision last summer to suspend the Cafe's night shift because of shrinking revenue and only offer breakfast and lunch.
