Strong Storms Destroy National Championship Wall at Famous Tuscaloosa Restaurant
A Tuscaloosa restaurant built on Alabama sports culture is dealing with an emotional loss after storms with strong straight-line winds took down a wall commemorating the Tide's National Championships on Saturday.
Storms whipped through West Alabama Saturday afternoon and though they did not produce tornadoes, they carried extremely strong winds and frequent lightning.
The storm torn down the National Championship Wall at Rama Jama's, the 30-year-old breakfast and burgers joint located steps away from Bryant-Denny Stadium.
"Today’s storm took down a piece of Tuscaloosa history. We lost our National Championship wall today," the restaurant wrote on Facebook.
The restaurant was founded in September 1996 by Gary Lewis, who took a second shot at retirement and handed over management of Rama Jama's in 2022.
It has long been a haven for Tide faithful to gather and eat, and every wall is plastered with Alabama memorabilia.
More severe storms are possible today and tomorrow, so continue to be weather-aware.
