Police in Tuscaloosa have two suspects in custody after an alleged shoplifting incident at Target led to a low-speed chase around the University Mall parking lot Wednesday.

The chase ended around 4:30 p.m., and it was not long before videos of the suspect vehicle circling the mall began to circulate on social media.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, told the Thread that the trouble started with reports of shoplifting at Target off Veterans Memorial Parkway on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the store, and Taylor said suspects fleeing in a vehicle may have tried to ram a patrol car before taking off and ending up in the mall parking lot nearby.

Taylor said the driver circled University Mall a few times before bailing out and attempting to flee on foot.

The driver and a female passenger are in police custody as TPD works out charges for one or both.
