A nationwide outage is affecting wireless data and voice service for Alabama customers of a major cellphone carrier.

According to reports, Verizon customers are without service Wednesday and have been for quite sometime for a reason unknown. "Verizon's team is on the ground actively working to fix today’s service issue that is impacting some customers," Verizon said on their website.

"We know this is a huge inconvenience, and our top priority is to get you back online and connected as fast as possible. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue."

The same message was posted on their X account on Wednesday.

ABC News reports that Downdetector showed at least 178,284 Verizon customers were affected at one point, but that number has since gone down.

On Verizon's website, parts of Tuscaloosa are affected by the outage with a "wireless service issue."

The outrage reportedly began around noon Wednesday according to BreitBart and customers reported seeing an SOS indicator displayed on their smartphones instead of the usual network signal bars, a sign that their devices could not connect to the carrier’s network.

It was reported that AT&T, and T Mobile customers were experiencing outages at one point by Leading Report. It has since been said that both companies' services are operating normally.
