An upcoming casting call in Tuscaloosa is giving local models a chance to step onto a competitive fashion stage while embracing confidence, purpose, and authenticity.

The free model call will take place Saturday, January 17, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Belk Activity Center. Male and female models are encouraged to attend. Participants are asked to wear all-black, professional attire. Women should wear high heels (no wedges), while men are required to wear black slacks, black shirts, and dress shoes, no tennis shoes allowed.

The Tuscaloosa casting call is being hosted by Big Sistas w/ Purpose LLC CEO Kenyetta Cheatum, who says the mission goes beyond fashion.

“I created my mentoring program to help motivate and build confidence in young girls and plus-size females,” Cheatum said. “It started because my oldest daughter was bullied due to her size and struggled with self-confidence.”

Cheatum, who has over 15 years of industry experience and currently holds the title Ms. Elite Alabama Ultimate Universe 2025, says each summer’s programming is designed to uplift youth before the new school year.

The casting call is part of a multi-city initiative created by DeAngela Pippen of Birmingham. Fifteen models from each city will advance to the June 14 fashion competition, “Let Dee Games Begin,” at the Bessemer Civic Center, where cash prizes will be awarded.

“This is about confidence, competition, and creating opportunity,” Cheatum said.
