As colder weather occurs, Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue reminds you how to stay safe and keep warm when it comes to space heaters.

DO:

Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything flammable.

Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet, never into an extension cord.

Turn heaters off when leaving a room or sleeping.

Choose a model with an automatic shut-off in case it tips over.

DON’T:

Place heaters on rugs, furniture, or unstable surfaces.

Use heaters with frayed cords or damaged plugs.

Stay safe and keep warm.
