Ain’t nothing like barbecue in Alabama.

Now I’m not gonna lie. There is great barbecue in a few states.

Texas and North Carolina both have their own legendary restaurants in the world of BBQ.

A few of those places are mighty good at the barbecue restaurant business, and they have been doing it for decades.

Most of the great barbecue places in Alabama have a long and decorated history in the state.

It doesn’t matter if you love ribs, chicken, burnt ends, pulled pork, or brisket. With a little extra effort, you can find great barbecue in Alabama.

Now comes word that one of the state's most famous and second-oldest barbecue joints is set to close.

I just hate having to report things like this when they involve legendary restaurants like this one.

In Tallassee, Alabama, you will find a place known as Dobbs BBQ.

Dobbs Famous BBQ was founded back in 1910.

Of course, it makes you wonder what the oldest barbecue joint is in the state of Alabama, but I will come back to that.

The current owner of Dobbs' famous BBQ announced over the weekend, via Wiregrass Daily News, that this past Sunday would be the end of their long run in Alabama.

Ten years ago, the restaurant was inducted into the Alabama Barbecue Hall of Fame.

The owners of the restaurant told me that very little had changed from the original recipes from 1910 up to what they were serving today.

The owners made no announcements regarding any plans for the future or the sale of their sauces or famous Brunswick stew.

It’s a sad day for those of us who love good barbecue, as the only barbecue joint that has been around longer is located in Irondale, Alabama.

Named after one of the most quoted Bible verses, Golden Rule BBQ has been around even longer than Dobbs.

That restaurant was founded in 1891.
