Do you remember Tyler Gentry, a former Alabama Baseball player? Let’s take a moment to reflect on his journey. Gentry was chosen in the third round of the 2020 MLB draft by the Kansas City Royals.

The skilled outfielder played two seasons with Tide baseball. During his time, Gentry was recognized as one of the Tide’s top hitters for both years. Over those two seasons, he posted impressive stats of .335/.420/.594, hitting 17 home runs, driving in 63 runs, and stealing nine bases in 73 games before being drafted by the Royals.

Since the draft, Gentry has spent the past two seasons in Triple-A with the Kansas City organization, including 105 games this year. In those games, he has recorded a batting line of .256/.346/.429, with 13 home runs, 54 RBIs, and five stolen bases.

On Aug 25., during the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies, Gentry came in as a pinch-hitter for MJ Melendez in the eighth inning, flying out to right field on his first pitch and later playing right field in the ninth inning.

With his appearance in Sunday’s game, Gentry became the 335th player in franchise history to make his MLB debut after playing for the Triple-A Omaha club.

Now, Gentry joins Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher David Robertson as the only former Tide baseball player currently in the MLB. His debut makes him the 70th player from Tide history to reach the major leagues.
